چکیده

Animations generated by interactive 3D computer graphics applications are typically portrayed either from a particular character's point of view or from a small set of strategically-placed viewpoints. By ignoring camera placement, such applications fail to realize important storytelling capabilities that have been explored by cinematographers for many years. In this paper, we describe several of the principles of cinematography and show how they can be formalized into a declarative language, called the Declarative Camera Control Language (dccl). We describe the application of dccl within the context of a simple interactive video game and argue that dccl represents cinematic knowledge at the same level of abstraction as expert directors by encoding 16 idioms from a lm textbook. These idioms produce compelling animations, as demonstrated on the accompanying videotape.

Intelligent Camera Control Using Behavior Trees

Automatic camera systems produce very basic animations for virtual worlds. Users often view environments through two types of cameras: a camera that they control manually, or a very basic automatic camera that follows their character, minimizing occlusions. Real cinematography features much more variety producing more robust stories. Cameras shoot establishing shots, close-ups, tracking shots, ...

Camera Control through Cinematography for Virtual Environments: A State of the Art Report

Cinematography has evolved as a set of guidelines for filming motion pictures that ensures a standard is adhered to and the events are presented in a coherent manner. Principles of cinematography can be employed such that supplementary information is communicated when necessary and the viewer does not become disoriented due to the camera work. We propose that these and other principles of cinem...

Knowledge-Based Cinematography and Its Applications

Automated control of a virtual camera is useful for both linear animation and interactive virtual environments. We have constructed a knowledge-based system that allows users to experiment with various cinematic genres and view the results in the form of animated 3D movies. We have followed a knowledge acquisition process converting domain expert principles into declarative rules, and our syste...

Pano2Vid: Automatic Cinematography for Watching 360$^{\circ}$ Videos

We introduce the novel task of Pano2Vid — automatic cinematography in panoramic 360◦ videos. Given a 360◦ video, the goal is to direct an imaginary camera to virtually capture natural-looking normal field-of-view (NFOV) video. By selecting “where to look” within the panorama at each time step, Pano2Vid aims to free both the videographer and the end viewer from the task of determining what to wa...
